Ted Sirota, a veteran of Chicago’s music scene for 20 + years, and drummer for Sabertooth and Ted Sirota’s Rebel Souls, presents a new band that reflects his lifelong passion for Reggae music. Ted Sirota’s Heavyweight Dub is the culmination of more than thirty years of Sirota’s examination of Jamaican music, especially Dub Reggae. Although Rebel Souls performed and recorded Jamaican inspired jazz composed by Sirota, Heavyweight Dub was formed to specifically deal with Dub in an authentic yet personal manner. In July of 2013, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, the band recorded their debut album with the legendary “Dub Chemist” The Scientist. “The Scientist Meets Ted Sirota’s Heavyweight Dub” is set to be released on 9/20/13 on Liberated Zone Records. Aside from featuring Sirota’s original compositions and drumming, the band features the following stellar Chicago musicians:
Anthony Abinannti – live dub mixing (The Drastics)
Tom Vaitsas – Keyboards
Cameron Pfiffner – Tenor Saxophone & Flute (Sabertooth)
