Las Guitarras de Espana Series
The 4th concert in the Las Guitarras de España (The Guitars of Spain) Presents: "Flamenco Collaborations Series" will feature the most diverse and inspiring line-up yet! Indian, African, flamenco and modern music and dance come together in a very special presentation. Opening the evening will be Indian veena virtuoso Sara Ranganathan and her "Ensemble of Ragas." They will be presenting new arrangements of Indo-Jazz-Flamenco compositions along with traditional Bharatanatyam dance featuring Viji Ranganathan. Next, Senegalese dancer Idy Ciss will lead an ensemble of rhythm and movement from the West African tradition. The evening will close with a Las Guitarras de España original work entitled "Music and Movement." This composition, featuring modern, flamenco and African dance along with Spanish guitar melodies and rhythms, was originally presented in 2010 at the Chicago Cultural Center. The piece has been updated for this performance. Modern dancer Nadine Lollino and flamenco dancer Wendy Clinard will join Idy Ciss for this new collaboration.
